Well I guess my question would be, do they mysteriously go deaf after a short time like my 2 "clean" GT-5R's did......... (Ok, I'm going to have to try a factory reset to see if that fixes)

I agree. Its a good $35 radio. Not a fan of the KILL STUN feature though. I bought a second radio. Had all kinds of problems with it getting killed. Came out of the box that way. Followed all the poorly written directions and video from TidRadio to no avail. Contacted Tech Support e-mail and never got an answer. Phone line was always busy. Only way to bring it back was to do a hard reset and reload memory. Very frustrating. Funny thing was that I never had both radios turned on at the same time. Go figure. I sent it back after three incidents. Several other users have experienced the same problem. Bad batch of radios? Who knows. I'll stick with one for now. Here's an idea for you Hayden. Why don't you do a detailed step by step video for us idiots on how to enable and disable this feature. All anyone has done so far is unboxings, features, functions etc.

From now on all Ham radio users should only buy rigs/handhelds that allow firmware community.

The problem with ham is, there are lots of old timers with no family, no friends, and no authority or power. This by itself isn't a big deal. But when you froth at the mouth for power and use your ham radio 'expertise ' like a gatekeeper, and that brings them a small part of happiness, bringing people down.

For new users, "programming" in Ham world means configuration upload and download, not programming the firmware.

A nice piece of junk for hams. Its a voltage fed antenna and on the first application of 400 watts the PVC breaks down from the high voltage and the antenna shorts. And then the worst thing they do is put the coil near the metal dropping the coil Q increasing the losses including capacitive loss. You dont want any metal near the coil. Any piece of crap will work sure, but this is crap CB engineering at its best.

Pretty wild for sure. Last week we went out to get some pictures of the Northern Lights (I'm in Canada), and had to use our GPS. Took longer than usual for our GPS to acquire a satellite so there was the effect mentioned. Watching the lights was amazing.

I ordered and received two and short of firmware glitches I had no problems. I have to learn to do the firmware updates that I havent had time to do no problems. My first ham handy talkie cost close to 900 dollars many years ago and was an ICOM Z1A awesome little radio but the plastic body just was not strong enough. These batteries for these radios are 2500 mah. And for suppling over 1.5 amps during key down they work pretty well.

My problem with ham clubs is that there is always a few people that have large egos. They know it all and despise experimenting with antennas and the like because they know it won’t work. I’ll never join another club and it has ruined the hobby for me. I’m just the silent lurker now.

Hello. I bought this radio because it has dual PTT, like the Baofeng UV-82 that I use for work to talk to two different groups. However, the earphone/mic I use for the UV-82 with two buttons only activates one frequency (the lower PTT). Is there any configuration that can enable both PTT via the handset? Thanks.

thanks so much for this video - I'm basically VERY new at HF and even though there were questions on the test about this it has been difficult to udnerstand and put into practice. I did a POTA last weekend and it took 4 hours to be able to activate the park I was in and that included FT8 and SSB - I wanted to do it totally with SSD but I just couldn't hit 10 but at least with the handful of FT8 I was able to do it. It was brutal to say the least...

Got the "prison model" (clear one) it is dirty with harmonics on 2M that should not be there, and in order to download the CPS for the radio (not chirp) I have to setup an account? What a company, why is every youtuber pushing this crap? Somebody getting affiliate link dollars...lol

Do I assume that the reduced length of the braided coax piece compared to the centre wire top piece is deliberate to offset the dipole and therefore increases the impedance towards 50 ohms?

Here in WI USA our radio been dead starting day before eclipse in april bheavy( 10+s units) static day before and of eclipse then reduced for week and dad since now over month hope turnaround coming
